Starting in firmware 3.3.4, Kaptivo has a new feature called a broadcast channel.
________________
Q: who can use this feature?
A: The feature itself is available to Enterprise devices or subscriptions.
It is not available to Business Edition devices or subscriptions
________________
Q: How does it work, does this feature require Kaptivo in Cloud mode or will it work for Self-hosted?
A: This feature requires Kaptivo in cloud connected mode and will not work on units configured for Local (self-hosted) mode. The broadcast channel uses a cloud reflector to give access to >15 viewer participants. The Kaptivo sends data to the cloud-reflector, Organizers and Viewers use kaptivo.live based URLs to connect viewers to the cloud reflector, and connect organizers to the Kaptivo device.
________________
Q: What is the difference between an Organizer and a Viewer?
Organizers are the only ones that can start or end a session.
The number of Organizers and Viewers allowed is different.
________________
Q: Can more than one Organizer be connected at the same time?
A: Yes, the system allows for up to 14 users connected as Organizer,
though technically we support 2, the others should work as expected.
________________
Q: Is there a limitation on number of Viewers?
A: There is no hard limit now, but we may set some limit in the future. If you want to host a very large number of viewers and encounter any issues please contact us.
________________
Q: Are the Organizer and Viewer codes case sensitive? Are there any minimum code/password requirements?
A: The codes can contain letters and numbers only, and are case sensitive. There are no minimum complexity requirements.
________________
Q: How do I know if a viewer joins, or how many viewers are present?
A: For a broadcast channel session, there is no ad-hoc joining. A user must have the URL in advance, and Accept/Reject popup will never be shown, and the viewer will auto-join. Users who try to join through traditional https://kaptivo.live site, without the Channel Viewer URL, will automatically be rejected.
Organizers can see everyone in the participant menu, but Viewers can only see a number of participants, in the top-bar.
________________
Q: Does this work with Single Sign On (SSO)?
A: SSO is a feature of the Kaptivo Enterprise feature set. If SSO is required for this Kaptivo device, then the Organizer will be subject to SSO requirements.
A Viewer can join the session regardless of SSO status, meaning they can go to kaptivo.live and login, that way participants profile names will be used for the connection and feedback, SSO for viewing is not enforced.
________________
Q: Do I still have to press the blue button to start a session?
A: There is an option to deactivate the button press requirement now in the admin web interface. In that case, the session will start immediately when an Organizer URL is used.
________________
Q: what do viewers see if they attempt to connect before the Organizer?
A: They will see a spinning cursor and the message ‘waiting for session to begin’, when the Organizer joins they will be auto-added to the session if they have the correct viewer URL, or see the message ‘incorrect channel access code’. The actual access code cannot be verified for viewers until the session starts.
________________
Q: Can I see viewer feedback on Kaptivo Insights?
A: Yes. Feedback left via the post-session pop-up is the same for Channel Broadcast viewers as regular session participants.
________________
Q: Can sessions be scheduled to start/stop on a schedule?
A: There is no built-in scheduling today. You could integrate this with scheduling software if you have a way to launch the Organizer URL - or just provide your teacher/organizers a bookmark URL with their organizer code so they can simply click it to start the session.
