A Kaptivo camera is a network device. The default way to interact with and view the whiteboard camera is through a web-browser session.
Today Kaptivo makes two different sets of firmware for its camera, the business edition and enterprise edition firmware.
The business edition is a cloud connected device. That means that the camera connects to the kaptivo.live web-service, allowing customers to connect to that web-service which in-turn will proxy communications to the camera itself. This avoids the participant needing a VPN connection back to the corporate network, and allows users to share their whiteboard with people outside of their corporate network. The camera unit is where the web session is both hosted and where camera content is stored. The design is done purposefully this way to avoid content being stored in the cloud. In all cases, there is no content stored outside of the camera – our cloud service is simply a connection proxy.
With the Enterprise firmware, we include a self-hosted mode. In self-hosted mode, participants connect directly to the camera over the enterprise network from their web browser, using http://IP-Address (or hostname if defined). If remote users (outside of the corporate network) need to connect to a Kaptivo in self-hosted mode, they will need to first access the private enterprise network, for example using a VPN client. In self-hosted mode all communications with the Internet can be turned off.
When running in self-hosted mode, the ‘share’ options in the web-interface are limited to download or print, whereas in cloud connected mode you have additional options such as share to slack, MS Teams, Webex Teams, Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.
In addition to self-hosted mode in the Kaptivo enterprise firmware you can also connect the enterprise units to our management and analytics portal. This will let you manage the kaptivo camera, see statistics and setup single sign on for cloud connected enterprise units.
Both the Kaptivo business edition and enterprise firmware will work with our Kaptivocast network accessory that will provide an HDMI output, or will our Kaptivo for USB room bundles, which include an additional accessory to convert HDMI-to-USB.
